Mercyhurst North East nursing student Jody Garich has been honored for her commitment to her RN to BSN studies with a scholarship from Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania.
The statewide honor recognizes one student from each nursing program type – from practical nursing certificate through doctorate-level studies – who has demonstrated deep levels of caring, compassion, community service and academic achievement.
Garich and the other 2014 honorees join 140 students recognized by Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania since the scholarship was established in 1991. The nonprofit foundation has awarded close to $200,000 in scholarships to nursing students in an effort to recruit and retain nurses to ensure the future of excellent health care in Pennsylvania.
Garich is employed as a registered nurse in the operating room at St. Vincent Health System and is expected to graduate with her BSN from Mercyhurst University in 2015.
“Jody is motivated for success in her nursing career,” said Judith Stanley, DHSc, RN, director of the BSN completion program. “She is completing her BSN with the goal of enhancing her clinical practice and the provision of evidence-based, safe, quality nursing care. We are so proud of all of her accomplishments.”
