Service Project

Summer Program Service-Learning Project

Service-Learning is an experiential learning component of the Religious Persons course using community service to enrich the classroom learning experience by teaching the student civic responsibility as it strengthens community bonds. Students participate in a project-based service-learning for a minimum of 10 hours of service at a non-profit community-based agency. The course instructor may incorporate the service experience into the class through reflection and discussion.

As part of the Summer Program course evaluation requirements, each student will write a one-page essay based on their experience and answering questions similar to the following:
1) What service did you provide and through what agency?
2) What were the most positive and negative aspects of your experience?
3) What have we studied in class that has helped you better understand the importance of service learning in the life of a religious person?
