Letter to New Freshmen
We are eager to help you finalize your plans before we welcome you to Mercyhurst Campus as a member of the new Class of 2016. This letter will provide instructions on how to register for classes for the Fall Term and information concerning Summer Orientation and the Summer Program in August.
As one of the features of the Level 2 Learning Differences Program, you are entitled to preferred course scheduling. Basically, this allows you to choose times, days and professors prior to when the other Mercyhurst College freshmen register. You will receive a copy of your completed schedule when you come to the preferred Summer Orientation.
Freshman in the Learning Differences Program who come to the August Summer Program are recommended to register for 4 courses:
1) Composition (3 credits) or Research and Writing (4 credits)
2) Interdisciplinary Studies (4 credits)
3) One Major Course
4) Intro to Psychology (3 credits). This course is taken as part of the Summer Program.
Freshmen who are NOT able to come to the Summer Program are recommended to take 3 courses:
1) Composition (3 credits) or Research and Writing (4 credits)
2) Interdisciplinary Studies (4 credits)
3) One Major Course
We will place you in the writing course and also your introductory course for your major. You are asked to choose the Interdisciplinary Studies course. If you have not chosen a major, there are appropriate CORE classes from which to select.
For detailed information about course descriptions, you may also refer to the Mercyhurst Catalog found here.
Your math recommendation will be made after we review the results of your online math placement test. (Please find instructions in your Confirmation Packet that you receive from Admissions). It is expected that your math class, either Math Problem Solving or Statistics, will be taken during your freshman year.
We are more than willing to advise you during the scheduling process. Call Elaine Ruggiero, Assistant Director of the Learning Differneces Program to discuss your choices, at 1-800-825-1926, extension 3048, when you have some idea of a possible schedule.
