One of the important goals of the Preserving the Legacy Campaign is to enhance an endowment that has grown significantly from 1980 to 2001.
In addition, the college has increased the amount of financial aid grants from $2,750,000 in 1990-91 to an estimated $12,204,000 in 2001-02.
As Mercyhurst continues to seek students on a national scope, it must be able to continue to provide the necessary financial aid.
Even though the college has experienced phenomenal growth in enhancing its endowment, the growth of the amount of scholarship aid is growing at a more rapid rate.
To maintain Mercyhurst's competitiveness with other private liberal arts colleges, the endowment must be doubled during the next five years to maintain its premier position in the northern part of the United States.
