As a communication consultant and professor at Mercyhurst since 1994, Dr. Anne Zaphiris has a plethora of academic and professional experience. Prior to arriving at Mercyhurst, Anne taught at State University of New York at Buffalo, Penn State Behrend and Kent State University. Her experience includes service as a corporate training consultant where she designed communication training and development courses, conducted communication audits and developed organization-specific training.  Anne earned her doctoral degree in Organizational Communication from State University of New York at Buffalo and her master’s degree from Kent State University. Her research interests include organizational identity, image and reputation; corporate social responsibility initiatives; communication and social change; and environmental issues. Along with Organizational Leadership Sustainability students, Anne developed Fresh Face Forward, a social change campaign to raise awareness about toxins in personal care products and effects on health environment.  Anne and her husband, Dr. Thomas Mack, have a son, Aidan Zaphiris Mack, who keeps them busy with soccer.

Academic Interests:
Anne's expertise lies in global communication theory which is highlighted by her dissertation, "A semantic network analysis of global corporate values statements." She imparts her knowledge not only through classroom teaching but also through her involvement as the faculty advisor for Lambda Pi Eta, Mercyhurst University's communication honors society and Com Board, the Mercyhurst Communication Department's student social organization. She also oversees direction of the on-campus media outlets, serves as secretary for the Academic Planning and Assessment Committee, as a member of various faculty search committees and as the department representative for the Academic Learning Outcomes Committee. At the graduate level, Anne serves as thesis chairperson and a committee member for students pursuing master degrees in Organizational Leadership at Mercyhurst.

Prior to arriving at Mercyhurst, Anne served as the director of the Principles of Communication course at State University of New York at Buffalo where she also had served as a graduate student teaching assistant and guest lecturer. She served as a member of the adjunct faculty at Penn State the Behrend College and at Kent State University's Main and Ashtabula Campuses where she taught public speaking courses and Theory and Practice of Oral Discourse, respectively.

Her business experience includes service as a corporate training consultant where she designed communication training and development courses for area businesses, conducted communication audits and designed organization-specific training. She also freelanced as a corporate trainer for the Manufacturer's Association of Northwest Pennsylvania and taught communication-related programs for the Corry Higher Education Association in Corry, Pa.

Anne earned her doctoral degree in Organizational Communication from State University of New York at Buffalo. She earned her master's degree from Kent State University in Communication Studies and her bachelor's in speech communication from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where she graduated magna cum laude.

Research Interests:
Her research interests include organizational identity, image and reputation; social responsibility initiatives; communication and social change; and communication environmental issues. Anne's current research includes: a longitudinal analysis of global corporations' value statements to monitor changes related to globalization and convergence, exploration of Presidential State of the Union addresses from 1985-2005, examination of the lyrics from the Live Earth concert venues to further understand the role of music in the social change process and a content analysis of value statements of Fortune's Best 100 Companies to Work.
