William Close and The Earth Harp Collective

Friday, September 5, 2014 - 7:30am
Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center

Inspired by the Frank Lloyd Wright quote “architecture is frozen music,” William Close creates musical installations that use the architecture as part of the instrument – most notably the Earth Harp, the world’s largest string instrument, which Close invented in 1999. The body of the Earth Harp rests on the stage and the strings attach to the balcony of the PAC, turning the theater into an instrument and allowing audience members to look up as the music and architecture collide above them.
