In the 1950s, unconvinced by land developers who promoted residential construction as unmitigated progress, citizens began banding together to preserve open spaces for parks and farms. Rebels with a Cause is the story of a California effort that grew into an astonishing system of 14 National Seashores – the result of garden clubs, ranchers, conservationists, politicians, and volunteers working together to preserve our public land. The filmmaker, director Nancy Kelly, will be present for a discussion following the film.
