The Roche Guest Artist Series at Mercyhurst University presents Pittsburgh Brass March 26 and 27. On Monday at 8 p.m., the group performs a recital in the university’s Walker Recital Hall. The following afternoon, they’ll present a masterclass for students in Mercyhurst’s D’Angelo Department of Music at 12:45 p.m., also in Walker Recital Hall. Pittsburgh Brass features five members of Pittsburgh’s historic River City Brass Band who are also active educators in the Pittsburgh area: Scott Nadelson and Samantha Croach on trumpet, Jason Allison on horn, Sebastian Vera on trombone and Sam Buccigrossi on tuba. They’ll perform a program of original works for brass quintet, such as the Four Outings for Brass by André Previn, the Suite from the Monterregian Hills by Morley Calvert, and Quintet No. 3 by Victor Ewald. The program will also include some arrangements of music from orchestral and musical theatre works. Both the recital and the masterclass are free and open to the public through the generosity of the Terry and Margaret M. Roche Family. For more information, call 814-824-2394.
