National Theatre Live, a series of high-definition broadcasts from London, presents Federico Garcia Lorca’s 1934 drama Yerma as radically reimagined by Australian director and dramatist Simon Stone. Stone transforms the achingly powerful tale of a provincial Spanish woman’s desperate desire to have a child into a parable of modern life. Billie Piper, who garnered rave reviews and a 2017 Olivier Award for Best Actress, delivers a fearless performance as the woman -- now a blogger and journalist -- driven to the unthinkable by her obsession with her own infertility while brutally documenting her trauma amidst the internet-surfing blogosphere of today. See Yerma at Mercyhurst’s Taylor Little Theatre on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 12:55 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $12 for students/youths. Note: This performance includes strobe lighting and strong language.
