Not far from the ancient city of Timbuktu, proud cattle herder Kidane (Ibrahim Ahmed) lives peacefully in the dunes with his wife, his daughter and their 12-year-old shepherd. In the nearby city, now controlled by religious fundamentalists, people suffer under their zealous, terroristic rule. Soon, Kidane and his family find their peaceful life shattered by fanatical jihadis in this complex and stunningly rendered film from world cinema master Abderrahmane Sissako.
