The Mercyhurst Theatre Program will present The Miss Firecracker Contest April 6-8 at 7:30 p.m. and April 8-9 at 2 p.m. in Taylor Little Theatre. The play by Beth Henley is directed by Mercyhurst senior Michael Rowe. The story follows Carnelle, who is furiously rehearsing her patriotic tap dance for the Miss Firecracker Contest. She hopes that a victory will salvage her tarnished reputation as the town’s “Miss Hot Tamale” and allow her to leave Brookhaven in a “crimson blaze of glory.” The unexpected arrival of her cousin Elain, a former Miss Firecracker, and Elain’s eccentric brother, Delmount, complicates matters. Nonetheless, Carnelle perseveres, leading to a climax of hilarity, heart and radiant fireworks! Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, and $5 for Mercyhurst students and youths.
