The Mercyhurst University Concert Choir and Orchestra, conducted by Rebecca Ryan, will perform the Fauré Requiem and Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen on Sunday, April 2, at 4 p.m. in the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center. Fauré’s Requiem, written in 1893, is most often sung accompanied by an organ, but this arrangement by John Rutter involves a small instrumental ensemble, including a harp. The seven-movement work includes one of the most famous sacred solos for soprano, Pie Jesu. Students will sing both the soprano and alto solos. Lux Aeterna is based on various Latin texts that describe light, a symbol of illumination at all levels. Both works are short and the concert is approximately an hour in length.
Tickets are $5 for general admission; $2 for Mercyhurst students and faculty and 12 and under; call 814-824-2394 for more information.
