Mercyhurst University’s Sustainability Club and Fashion Council are bringing the award-winning documentary RiverBlue to campus on Monday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Mercy Heritage Room. Narrated by clean water supporter Jason Priestley, the film follows river conservationist Mark Angelo on a journey that uncovers the dark side of the fashion industry. Through harsh chemical manufacturing processes and irresponsible disposal of toxic chemical waste, the manufacturing of clothing is destroying rivers globally. RiverBlue brings awareness to the destruction of some of the world’s most vital rivers, but also acts as a demand for significant change in the textile industry from the top fashion brands that can make a difference. For more information, contact Ashlee Rzyczycki, Instructor of fashion merchandising, or Sarah Bennett, Mercyhurst Sustainability Coordinator. The screening is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be sold to support both the Sustainability Club and Fashion Council.
