Soprano Lydia Beasley and pianist Dr. Sarah Kahl are featured in the first installment of this season’s Faculty Recital Series at Mercyhurst University. The recital will feature a wide variety of musical eras and styles, from baroque ornamentation to sweeping late romantic melodies and beyond. The artists will perform art songs by Tchaikovsky, Wolf, Duparc and Knussen, along with arias from Handel's Alcina, Massenet's Manon and Moore's Ballad of Baby Doe. Of particular note is Oliver Knussen's Four Late Poems and an Epigram of Rainer Maria Rilke, an atonal, unaccompanied work that showcases the power of vocal expression through unconventional musical means.
The program on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m. in Walker Recital Hall is free and open to the public. Call 824-2394 for more information.
