“Art for Change by Eritrean Refugees” will be on display in Cummings Gallery at Mercyhurst University Sept. 25-Oct. 22, with a reception on Thursday, Oct. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit features paintings created by Eritrean refugees currently living in Northern Ethiopia. In their artworks they express their longing for lost loved ones, traumatic memories of persecution, and stories of their families and friends who have taken perilous journeys. The reception will include a presentation by Eskinder Negash, chief operating officer of Immigration and Refugee Services of America Inc., as well as an Eritrean coffee ceremony. Books and bags will be available for purchase to support the work of Jesuit Refugee Service. Cummings Gallery, located in the lobby of the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center, is open weekdays 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 2-5 p.m. It will be closed during mid-semester break Oct. 12-16.
