Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management

The Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management program offers baccalaureate and associate degrees (associate degree at Mercyhurst North East campus only) with a unique blend of classroom theory and field experience. HRIM was accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Program Hospitality Administration in August 1992, and reaccredited in 1999.

One of the oldest programs in the country, HRIM was developed at Mercyhurst in 1969 in response to a growing demand for professionals in the field. It provides industry-specific courses and experiences enriched by a broad selection of required liberal and elective courses so that graduates are ready to compete professionally.

The HRIM department operates well-equipped food service facilities. The HRIM majors use these kitchens and classrooms for both academic and operational purposes. HRIM has also developed one of the strongest internship programs of any HRIM school in the country. Qualified students can obtain valuable management and learning experiences while earning as many as nine credits from a pre-approved internship/co-op facility. Entering freshman/transfer students are required to participate in the dining room service-training lab in conjunction with the Introduction to Hospitality Management (HRIM 100) class. This course permit interested students to explore career opportunities within the expansive service industry.
