2007-08 PROFILE OF MERCYHURST COLLEGE
WEST CAMPUS
FOUNDED: In 2005, when Mercyhurst College purchased a 405-acre site in Girard that was formerly the Divine Word Seminary. Classes started in fall 2006 in a temporary facility just west of the property.

CAMPUS: Classes currently being held in temporary facility, the former Faith Lutheran Church in Girard, which has been renovated to feature three classrooms, office space, a conference room, and student lounge. Plans for the 405-acre site in Girard are being developed.

RECENT CAMPUS DEVELOPMENTS
2007
- National City donated $30,000 in support of the Mercyhurst West campus. Officials from National City presented the donation on Feb. 8. The funds are earmarked for ongoing academic programming at Mercyhurst West's temporary site and in support of plans to develop the permanent campus.
- West enrolled 34 students for fall term; 16 new, 18 returning. Out of the new students, six were traditional, and 10 were adults, and of the 34 total students, 13 enrolled full-time.
2006
- Mercyhurst College purchased the former Faith Lutheran Church on Rte. 20 in Girard on May 1 and laid the foundations for the first courses to be offered at the West Campus.
- Mercyhurst West came to life as classes began at the temporary West Campus site. Long-range planning for innovative programming and an exceptional, state-of-the-art permanent facility take shape as Mercyhurst College and the West County work together to bring new opportunities to the Erie regional community.
2005
- Mercyhurst College purchased a 405-acre site from the Society of the Divine Word for $1.85 million on May 28.
- On Aug. 6, 2005, the Mercyhurst Community Action Committee and the west Erie County community celebrate the birth of Mercyhurst West. Ten thousand people attend a fireworks display to celebrate the event.
