Commuter students bring a unique perspective to the university and we want them to share their energy and enthusiasm by getting involved in some of the wonderful activities and organizations Mercyhurst has to offer. The time that a commuter spends participating in the cultural, spiritual and recreational activities can be as vital to their education as their academic program. Some of the unique services/programs the Campus Involvement Center offers commuters include:
- Commuter Lounge & Café: The Commuter Lounge & Café is located on the 2nd floor of the Student Union. The Commuter Lounge includes a couch, loveseat, comfy chair and workspace area. There are multiple outlets available for students to plug in their laptops and limited lockers available for students to reserve. Commuters can sign-up for a locker in the Campus Involvement Center.
- “Just for Commuters” portal page contains information such as a link to a campus map, involvement opportunities, FAQ’s for commuters, etc.
- Mercyhurst Commuter Council: The purpose of the Mercyhurst Commuter Council is to unite the commuter students in a club form. This group provides commuter students with the opportunity to organize on campus events aimed at their needs/interests and to become united and heard by the campus administration and student government. In addition, it provides commuters with a stronger sense of belonging to the Mercyhurst community.
- Commuter Events: The Campus Involvement Center, in conjunction with the Mercyhurst Commuter Council host special events for commuter students throughout the year. A Meet N’ Greet which is held in September, allow commuters to have an opportunity to meet the Mercyhurst Commuter Council president and Mercyhurst Student Government senators while enjoying free food and giveaways. During the spring term, the Annual Commuter Day is held, which is a chance for commuters to enter to win great prizes such as gas cards, travel mugs, ice scrapers, Laker Loot cards and emergency car kits.
