The college operates on a three-term academic calendar; each term is 10 ½ weeks long. Students normally take ten courses per year. A limited number of courses are also offered in the evening and on weekends. The fall term begins about the first week in September and runs until the middle of November, close to the Thanksgiving break. The winter term starts at the end of November and, after three weeks, is interrupted by a two-week Christmas vacation. Classes resume the first full week in January and run until the end of February. The spring term starts in early March and continues to mid-May with a brief Easter recess. In each term, day classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays or on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Evening classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays or on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Term courses are equivalent in credit hours to those offered on a semester plan.
Summer sessions
Mercyhurst operates one six and one-half week summer session. A normal load for students during the summer is two courses (or a six-credit internship). Courses in many disciplines are scheduled as day and evening classes on weekdays and Sundays. The schedule of summer courses is available mid March. A complete listing may be accessed at the Web site www.mercyhurst.edu. Pre-registration for summer courses is conducted after the schedule is published. It continues through the spring term. Room and board accommodations are available during the summer sessions.
