Position Summary

The Department of Sports Medicine at Mercyhurst University is seeking a full-time faculty member – rank (instructor/assistant professor/associate professor) dependent upon qualification and experience of the candidate – to serve as Program Director of the undergraduate Athletic Training Program.  The successful candidate will teach the undergraduate program to completion and navigate the transition to a professional Master of Science in Athletic Training.  Appointment begins August 15, 2018.

Salary:  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.

 

Expectation/Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall operation and function of the MU Athletic Training Program.  This position requires the integration of skills exemplary of faculty members, as well as those skills evident in experienced Certified Athletic Trainers. Job functions include the development of curriculum, student development, program development and maintenance of the accreditation process; teach undergraduate courses within the Department of Sports Medicine; plan, direct and supervise the delivery of athletic training education in both the classroom and clinical environments; maintain and ensure compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Athletic Training Education Programs (CAATE) standards and guidelines.  Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advise and mentor athletic training students; recruitment of athletic training students; remain current in best practices and current issues/trends within the profession; and work cooperatively and collaboratively with the faculty within the Sports Medicine Department, College, and University; and fulfillment of the duties and responsibilities within the University faculty handbook.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's Degree Required, Doctorate Preferred (ABD considered)
  • Evidence of 3 years of teaching experience in CAATE accredited program
  • Evidence of prior clinical experience in athletic training with diverse populations
  • BOC certification and eligibility for Pennsylvania licensure
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from variety of diverse settings and backgrounds.
  • Familiarity and applied knowledge with CAATE accreditation standards.

Preferred:

  • Experience in evidence-based practice, outcomes assessment, and/or policy development
  • Evidence of successful experience managing clinical education within athletic training
