The Department of Mathematics and Computer Systems at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA, part of the Tom Ridge School of Intelligence Studies and Information Science, invites applications for a full-time position in data science at the rank of Assistant Professor. A PhD in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field, completed by September 2015, is required of applicants seeking a tenure-track position. However, applicants with a master’s degree and significant data science skills and industry experience will be considered for a non-tenure-track position. The position commences in September, 2015.
In the fall of 2015, we will initiate a new master’s degree program in data analytics, which will feature courses in machine learning, Python and R programming, data visualization, database technologies, and data wrangling. We are looking for candidates who can help guide the development of our program, offer such courses, and advise students completing research projects and theses. We are also interested in forming a competitive Kaggle team of faculty and students, and the experience and ability to lead such a group is a plus. Finally, we are interested in candidates who can teach introductory data science courses to undergraduates.
Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching and ongoing scholarship.
Our department offers bachelor’s degrees in both mathematics and information technology, and, as mentioned, will soon offer a master’s degree in data analytics. We work closely with the Mercyhurst Department of Intelligence Studies, recognized nationally and worldwide for its programs.
