IEP 101 – Intensive English: Listening and Speaking 1

Prerequisite:  Placement test.  This course is intended for students who have a limited understanding of English and need to develop basic communication skills.  Students will engage in basic social conversation and practice listening, speaking, and pronunciation.

IEP 102 – Intensive English: Listening and Speaking 2

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 101. This course builds upon the conversational skills developed in IEP 101.  Students will learn phrases and vocabulary used in specific social situations.  They will also practice listening, speaking, and pronunciation and learn how to improve these skills for better communication.

IEP 103 – Intensive English: Listening and Speaking 3

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 102.  This course develops more advanced conversational skills and familiarity with basic academic English.   Students will learn and practice conversation strategies and skills with an emphasis on pronunciation.  They will also learn note taking and oral presentation skills.  

IEP 104 – Intensive English:  Listening and Speaking 4

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 103.  This is an advanced course designed to prepare students to succeed in courses outside of the ESL program.  Students will work on academic skills such as lecture comprehension, note taking, oral presentations, and debating.  Clarity in pronunciation will also be a focus.

IEP 111 – Intensive English: Writing and Grammar 1

Prerequisite:  Placement test. The focus of this class is on writing at a sentence level.  Students will focus on specific grammatical and mechanical points and use these points to create more comprehensible sentences.   Students will begin to combine sentences into simple paragraphs.

IEP 111L – Intensive English: Writing and Grammar Lab 1

Students enrolled in IEP 111 will practice their writing and grammar skills.

IEP 112 -- Intensive English: Writing and Grammar 2

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 111.  This class emphasizes paragraph writing.  Students will create topic sentences and present supporting details.  Students will develop their basic grammatical skills through written assignments.

IEP 112L – Intensive English: Writing and Grammar Lab 2

Students enrolled in IEP 112 will practice their writing and grammar skills.

IEP 113 -- Intensive English:  Writing and Grammar 3

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 112. This class focuses upon essay writing. Students will learn the elements and structure of an essay, including thesis, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.  Students will also learn more advanced grammatical skills and apply them in writing assignments.

IEP 113L -- – Intensive English: Writing and Grammar Lab 3

Students enrolled in IEP 113 will practice their writing and grammar skills.

IEP 114 -- Intensive English: Writing and Grammar 4

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 113.  In this class students will continue to develop their essay writing skills, with a focus on academic writing.  Students will also practice more advanced grammatical skills and apply them in writing assignments.

IEP 114L – Intensive English: Writing and Grammar Lab 4

Students enrolled in IEP 114 will practice their writing and grammar skills.

IEP 121 -- Intensive English: Reading and Vocabulary 1

Prerequisite: Placement test.  This class focuses on reading simple written English.  Students in this class will develop comprehension skills by identifying the main idea of a written passage, finding answers to questions, and creating summaries.  Classroom exercises will also help students build their vocabulary.

IEP 121L -- Intensive English: Reading and Vocabulary Lab 1

Students enrolled in IEP 121 will practice their reading and vocabulary skills.

IEP 122 - Intensive English: Reading and Vocabulary 2

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 121. This class is a continuation of IEP 121.  The emphasis is on the continued improvement of basic reading skills.  Students will learn and practice such reading skills such as skimming, scanning, identifying main points and paraphrasing. They will also continue to build their vocabulary. 

IEP 122L -- Intensive English: Reading and Vocabulary Lab 2

Students enrolled in IEP 121 will practice their reading and vocabulary skills.

IEP 123 -- Intensive English: Reading and Vocabulary 3

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 122.  In this class students will continue to develop their reading and comprehension skills.  Students will practice skills such as skimming, scanning, summarizing and paraphrasing using academic text books.  

IEP 123L -- Intensive English: Reading and Vocabulary Lab 3

Students enrolled in IEP 123 will practice their reading and vocabulary skills.

IEP 124 - Intensive English: Reading and Vocabulary 4

Prerequisite:  Placement test or successful completion of IEP 123.  Students In this class will improve their critical reading skills, with an emphasis on academic reading.  Students will prepare to succeed in classes outside of the IEP program.  

IEP 124L -- Intensive English: Reading and Vocabulary Lab 4

Students enrolled in IEP 124 will practice their reading and vocabulary skills.

IEP 101 – Intensive English: Special Topics 1

Intended for students enrolled in Session 1, this class will cover topics of interest to the students, including social and cultural awareness, arts and entertainment,  geography, student life skills, student life activities, university resources, and others.  The emphasis is on the development of speaking, listening and reading skills.

IEP 102 – Intensive English: Special Topics 2

Intended for students enrolled in Session 2, this class will cover topics of interest to the students, including social and cultural awareness, arts and entertainment, geography, student life skills, student life activities, university resources, and others. The emphasis is on the development of speaking, listening and reading skills.

IEP 103 – Intensive English: Special Topics 3

Intended for students enrolled in Session 3, this class will cover topics of interest to the students, including social and cultural awareness, arts and entertainment, geography, student life skills, student life activities, university resources, and others. The emphasis is on the development of speaking, listening and reading skills.

IEP 104 – Intensive English: Special Topics 4

Intended for students enrolled in Session 4, this class will cover topics of interest to the students, including social and cultural awareness, arts and entertainment, geography, student life skills, student life activities, university resources, and others.  The emphasis is on the development of speaking, listening and reading skills.
