Why Mercyhurst?

Since its founding in 1926, Mercyhurst has committed itself to providing an accessible, affordable liberal arts education which blends real-world, hands-on experience and professional preparation with a robust liberal arts core. Research has demonstrated that outcomes for students educated in the liberal arts tradition far outshine those of their counterparts educated at public universities. Here are a few of the highlights of a Mercyhurst education:

Faculty-student relationships

With a 14:1 student-faculty ratio, you're never a number at Mercyhurst. You'll interact with faculty in and out of the classroom. Students have opportunities to conduct field work, travel abroad, and partner on research projects with our impressive faculty. Our faculty take teaching seriously -- every class is taught by a faculty member (never a TA or GA).

Interdisciplinary Seminar

Every freshman begins their academic career with a seminar taught by three Mercyhurst faculty members from diverse disciplines. These creative offerings -- everything from Breaking Down Breaking Bad to the Business of Health -- promote interdisciplinary and critical thinking. Learn more about these seminars.

Exploration Encouraged

Unique Calendar, Unique Opportunities

Unique Calendar, Unique Opportunities

Mercyhurst operates on a 4-1-4 calendar: Fall and Spring semesters are split with a three-week January term (or "J-Term," as it's more commonly known). Students spend January immersed in a single course, traveling abroad with faculty, completing a mini-internship or doing community service. Learn more about our calendar.

Engaged Experience, Beyond the Gates

Engaged Experience, Beyond the Gates

Students gain valuable experience through participation in a wide variety of community service, internship, study abroad, field work, and faculty-led research opportunities. These experiences enrich the student experience while ensuring students leave with expertise valued by employers and graduate schools.  Learn more about capstone experiences.
