We believe in “Teaching Excellence”

The public health program at Mercyhurst is focused on providing students with the skills and knowledge that they need for successful careers in public health. The program is led by award winning teacher, Dr. David J. Dausey, who has developed teaching techniques designed to help students learn easier and faster. At the core of this teaching philosophy is the belief that people learn better by participating and directly engaging in learning than by listening to lectures alone.

In describing the program’s pedagogy, Dausey said, “imagine a public health course where instead of being told about the steps of an outbreak investigation that you actually participate in a simulated outbreak investigation during class. The goal is to provide students with hands-on knowledge that will help them to experience public health firsthand.”
