Quick Facts

  • Many of our graduates have used their Mercyhurst degree in psychology as a stepping stone to go on to do bigger and better things, such as pursuing doctoral degrees from other distinguished programs in the nation (i.e. Yale and Columbia); obtaining law and medical degrees; and even entering into the FBI and Secret Service.
  • Our students have pursued entry-level careers after graduation in law, health and medicine, social work, education, government, sports or business. The good news among these careers is that studies are projecting that employment in these areas will increase between 8-24 percent between 2013-2020 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Psychology has been called “the health care profession for the 21st century.”
  • The Psychology Club hosts speakers, organizes field trips, and holds discussions and social gatherings, all relating to psychology. The mission of the club is to explore the multifaceted domains of psychology and to further our knowledge with respect to the applications of these domains. It's a great way for psychology students and faculty to come together to learn, share resources and have fun.
  • Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate students who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). The Mercyhurst College chapter of Psi Chi was chartered in 1991. Many of its members have since gone on to distinguished careers in psychology and other professions.
