Life After Graduation

Students who graduate from Mercyhurst University with a degree in political science are well prepared for success in a wide range of careers. Our graduates have attended top-ranked law schools and advanced degree programs. Some have worked for members of Congress in Washington, D.C., as well as state and local governments. Laker grads have pursued careers in the Environmental Protection Agency, State Department, Central Intelligence Agency; while many have worked for think tanks, presidential campaigns, interest groups and lobbying firms. Regardless of the career they choose, the department’s graduates are well equipped to fulfill their responsibilities as citizens and make the most of their professional lives.

Evidence of this high-quality education isn’t hard to find. During the last decade, graduates of the political science program have been admitted to nearly 50 of the most highly respected graduate programs in political science, public policy or public administration.

Likewise, our graduates have found success at excellent regionally and nationally ranked law schools. In recent years, graduates of the political science program have attended law school at the University of Michigan, Penn State University-Dickenson, West Virginia University, and a number of other fine institutions.

For students who choose not to attend graduate or law school, evidence of their having received a quality undergraduate education is also not hard to find. ’Hurst graduates are presently working for United States senators, defense contractors, the local and state government, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations and in the national security apparatus.
