Application Deadlines and Procedures

2014 Application/DVD-Recording Deadline: April 15th

Any serious piano or string student who is currently enrolled in high school (or will be entering high school the fall following the academy) is welcome to apply! Please send a DVD (audio-only recordings will not be accepted) of your performance, following the instrument-specific repertoire guidelines below:

 

Piano:

Present 3 contrasting movements or pieces, all from memory. One of the movements should be a contrapuntal work by Bach, and another should be a fast movement from a standard piano sonata by Beethoven, Haydn, or Mozart. Any other significant etude or short character piece may also be included.

 

Violin:

Present 3 contrasting movements or pieces. One of the works should be a movement of unaccompanied Bach, and must be played from memory. The other pieces may be the first two movements of a standard concerto, a showpiece, or a significant etude or caprice.

 

Viola:

Present 3 contrasting movements or pieces. One of the works should be a movement from the unaccompanied Bach cello suites, and must be played from memory. The other pieces may be the first two movements of a standard concerto, a showpiece, or a significant etude or caprice.

 

Cello:

Present 3 contrasting movements or pieces. One of the works should be a movement from the unaccompanied Bach cello suites, and must be played from memory. The other pieces may be the first two movements of a standard concerto, a showpiece, or a significant etude or caprice.

DVDs should be labeled with the applicant’s name, as well as the repertoire performed.

NOTE: any accompanied works must be performed with piano
