About the Academy

The Mercyhurst Summer Music Academy (MSMA) is a week-long camp for high school piano and string students, which focuses on chamber music and solo repertoire. Located on the beautiful campus of Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, and in conjunction with the school’s D’Angelo Department of Music and its dedicated faculty, the mission of the camp is to provide intensive training and meaningful performance opportunities for serious young musicians through private lessons, chamber music coachings, and masterclasses.

Designed as an intimate, hands-on experience, only fifteen total students will be accepted each year. Each student will be assigned a chamber group and given two private lessons with the appropriate faculty member. Daily coachings and rehearsals, as well as one guest masterclass and final chamber concert will also serve as an integral part of the MSMA experience.

Mercyhurst University will serve as the backdrop for the Academy: access to the school’s music facilities (practice rooms, rehearsal spaces, and Walker Recital Hall), dorm, and dining hall will enable the students to maximize their learning experience while on campus. Additional evening activities in the Erie area will also be included in the students’ schedule, in order to foster a sense of community and collaborative integrity.
