Master’s In Secondary Education “4+1” Program

In this second option, through a fifth year (at a reduced adult education tuition rate), students earn both their secondary teaching certification and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education.

History Curriculum (42 credits)

  • Minimum 6 credits U.S. History
  • Minimum 6 credits European History
  • Minimum 6 credits World History
  • Historical Methods/Historiography (3 credits)
  • Senior Thesis or Senior Seminar (3 credits)
  • Six additional courses of the student’s choosing (18 credits)

Social Studies Content (27 credits)

  • Intro to Psychology
  • Macroeconomics
  • Intro to Sociology
  • American Government
  • World Geography
  • Geopolitics OR World Politics OR Int’l Relations
  • World Cultures OR General Anthropology
  • Comparative Issues in Education (senior year)
  • WL101 Culturally/Linguistically Diverse Learners (senior year)
All Remaining Education Courses are taken in the 5th year, which results in both the Secondary Education Certification and the M.A. in Secondary Education.
