The political science major is designed to provide a sound basis for both graduate and career work in such fields as government service, law, teaching, active politics, journalism, and foreign service. A concentration in environmental studies and politics is now offered; and specialized contracts for both political science majors and minors are also available. The contract major is designed to prepare students for a specific educational/occupational goal. There is an off-campus requirement for all majors (unless waived by the department). This may be fulfilled through pre-approved internship/cooperative experiences, electoral political participation, or study abroad.
Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society; Model UN Club; Pre-Law Society; guest speakers; and the off-campus Ad Hoc discussions are among the extracurricular options for political science majors and minors.
