Physics and Astronomy

All courses offered in physics have two main goals. The first is to expose the students to all basic principles of physics. The students will have the opportunity to learn and utilize the laws of physics that are intimately intertwined with chemical and biological processes. Whenever possible the applications to other areas of science will be discussed. The second goal is to cultivate critical reasoning. Mastering physics requires the student to become an accomplished problem solver. While the vehicle used by this department is the study of physics, a natural outcome of courses is an increased ability to successfully solve problems.

The college does not offer a physics major or physics minor. All courses are introductory in nature and are geared to students in other disciplines. The department is capable of designing courses with this clientele in mind. Students with majors such as applied forensic science, biology, biochemistry, business, chemistry, education, mathematics, pre-law, sportsmedicine, and others are encouraged to obtain a richer perspective on their majors through physics courses.
