Service Learning is a method and philosophy of experiential learning through which students participate in community service to meet community needs while developing their abilities for critical thinking, their commitments and values and the skills they need for effective citizenship.
Students in designated classes complete a minimum of 10 hours of service at an approved non-profit community based agency or through a project-based option. The course instructor incorporates the service experience into the class through reflection and discussion. The director of service learning coordinates this program.
The Service Learning Office has an AmeriCorps* VISTA member coordinating after-school tutor and mentoring programs.
The Service Learning Office provides limited transportation to some sites.
