The mission of the Prestigious Award Program at Mercyhurst University is two-fold: The primary goal of the program is to assist exceptional Mercyhurst students in writing competitive applications. These applications are for some of the most prestigious national and international awards in contemporary undergraduate and graduate scholarship such as: the Boren Scholarship, Goldwater Scholarship, Fulbright Scholarship, Marshall Scholarship, and a variety of others. While some are for research and study here and abroad as undergraduates, the majority of supported awards are for international graduate study at some of the world’s top universities. The second goal of the program supports the first. By identifying exceptional students early through faculty recommendations and the University Honors Program, students can be groomed from their early years at Mercyhurst to be working toward applying for these prestigious scholarships. The program therefore has an every growing list of supported awards as well as links to search engines to assist students in identifying and applying for outside scholarships from a variety of sources throughout their time at Mercyhurst. Links to all of these resources are available through this page.
Please take time to review all the definitions below and note deadlines for the different requirements. If you have questions, please contact the faculty representative for the specific award or Dr. Danowitz if a representative is not specified. It is strongly recommended that students have a G.P.A of at least 3.875 to be competitive for most of these awards.
Students in their first year at Mercyhurst should look through the awards listed for subsequent years. Following the links to the awards will give students information on what they need to be doing throughout their time at Mercyhurst to be competitive for these awards. First year students are also strongly encouraged to look for and apply to a variety of undergraduate scholarships. The "Scholarship Tools" tab provides links to search engines to assist in looking for such scholarships.
