The Higher Education Administration programs in the graduate school at Mercyhurst University are designed to develop expertise across a wide range of functions in higher education. Students work collaboratively with university administrators, staff and faculty in the application of theoretical concepts in the areas of program development, assessment, policy formulation and problem resolution. We offer two options through a mixture of on-campus and online coursework to best meet the goals, needs and schedules of working students.
There are two options for applicants interested in higher education administration. First, a four course Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Administration (credits are applicable to the master's degree program). This certificate may be completed in as little as one year. In addition to the graduate certificate, we offer a Master of Science (M.S.) in Organizational Leadership with a Higher Education Administration concentration. This program typically takes two years to complete. The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the number of students at the post-secondary level is expected to grow more rapidly than other student populations, creating an increased need for leaders in this field.
In compliance with the “gainful employment” regulations under Title IV of the Higher Education Act, as amended, Mercyhurst is disclosing certain cost and career information to prospective students. You can view this information by clicking here.

In addition to the four courses required for the graduate certificate (listed above), you will take the following seven courses (21 credits) that constitute the Organizational Leadership core curriculum:
