The entrepreneurship concentration prepares students to succeed as leaders and entrepreneurs in the ever-changing global business environment. This program creates enlightened leaders who have the capacity to learn and grow through reflection, while meeting the mission of Mercyhurst University, which is to work for positive change in the local and the global community. In addition, students learn techniques to secure financing, develop a marketing plan and launch business operations.

Higher Education Administration

The concentration in higher education administration will prepare students for a position or advancement in a higher education setting. The courses in the concentration focus on the practical and day-to-day running of a higher education institution, with students completing an invaluable internship in a higher education setting. The concentration will prepare students to work in any facet of higher education administration, including: student financial services, enrollment, student life, academics and advancement. The U.S. Department of Labor projects that job opportunities in the field of higher education administration should be “excellent” through 2018.

Human Resources

The concentration in human resources (HR) is specifically designed to prepare students to take on a managerial role in the HR field. This concentration provides a professional level of field knowledge and opportunities to discuss/apply practical applications. Combined with the organizational leadership core, successful graduates will enter a dynamic field with expert knowledge as accomplished HR managers at companies regardless of their size or industry.

Students can enroll in the new human resources PHR/SPHR Certification Preparation course, which prepares students for either the Professional Human Resources or Senior Professional in Human Resources certificate exams*. This course is open to undergraduate studentsgraduate students and HR professionals.

*To sit for the PHR/SPHR exams, you may have to meet additional requirements.


Nonprofit Management

The nonprofit business sector has unique leadership needs; with a concentration in nonprofit management, students will be uniquely prepared to meet them. This concentration focuses on organizational leadership, volunteer management, marketing, public relations and financial management to achieve success in educational, religious, human services and any other nonprofit settings. Some courses are offered online.

The concentration in Sports Leadership provides a professional level of knowledge in the field, which prepares students for entry into or advancement in the field of sports leadership.
