Geoarchaeology Concentration

The Master of Science degree program in Anthropology: Geoarchaeology Concentration is a recent addition to the graduate offerings of the Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute. The Geoarchaeology concentration focuses on the operational and theoretical interfaces between anthropological archaeology and geology. It is designed to throughly acquaint the student with the protocols and applications of geological methods to the location, characterization, excavation, and interpretation of archaeological sites. Like the Archaeology Concentration the Geoarchaeology Concentration emphasizes the investigation of closed as well as open site loci.

Graduates of the program will be strongly encouraged to puruse post-graduate educations at the Ph.D. level. Upon completion of this program students will have the requisite skills to compete successfully in any graduate program or, alternatively, to competitively seek employment in a variety of collegiate, museum, or private venues.
