All students will be required to write a thesis. The topic of the thesis must be approved prior to the start of research. Ideally, the student will narrow down their research focus during the first year of the program, and collect data during the summer between the first and second year. It is expected that the student will analyze their data during the second year and then write and defend their thesis at the close of the second year, or during the following summer. The preferred thesis product is a publishable article prepared for a recognized scientific journal.
