Degree Requirements

Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees:

  1. Minimum of 120 credits in 100-level or above, nonlaboratory courses be successfully completed.
  2. At least 30 credits be taken in the major program unless the program has been exempted from this regulation.
  3. That the Basic Competency requirements in reading, writing and mathematics be successfully completed. Students are personally responsible for ensuring that they meet these requirements. If a student has a question about any one of the courses, the question should be referred to the Registrar or the Office of Academic Affairs.
  4. Acumulative grade point average of at least C (2.0 GPA) or higher be earned as specified by program requirements.
  5. All requirements in the major department be successfully met. This includes the required cumulative GPA, the required courses, theses, practicums, etc.
  6. At least 45 credits be completed at Mercyhurst. This includes at least half the total credits in the major program.
  7. At least 24 credits of the last 30 be completed under the auspices of Mercyhurst College.

Bachelor of Music degree:

  1. A minimum of 139 credits be completed.
  2. A cumulative overall average of at least C (2.0 GPA) be earned.
  3. A cumulative average of at least C+ (2.5 GPA) be earned in the major area of concentration.
  4. All requirements in the area of concentration be completed, including the required courses, recitals, language proficiencies, etc.
  5. At least 25 credits of the last 35 be completed under the auspices of Mercyhurst College.
  6. Fulfill the recital attendance requirements.

Associate of Science and Associate of Arts:

  1. A minimum of 60 credits be successfully completed (exclusive of lab credits).
  2. A student take at least 15 credits outside the departmental area.
  3. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 be earned as specified in program requirements.
  4. All requirements of the program be successfully completed. This includes the required cumulative average, the required courses, internships, etc.
  5. At least half the total credits in the program be completed at Mercyhurst College.
  6. The associate degree cannot be designated retroactively after a bachelor's degree has been earned.
