LPN to RN Bridge Program Part-Time

For those individuals who are already working as a practical nurse, and are considering a career change into registered nursing, Mercyhurst North East offers a part-time LPN to RN Bridge program.

Graduates of state-approved practical nursing programs are able to earn an associate of science degree in nursing and prepare for licensure as a registered professional nurse (RN) through Mercyhurst North East’s ASN articulation program. The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Graduates of state approved and NLNAC-accredited practical nursing programs will be granted a maximum of 15 credits toward a associate degree in nursing based on admissions criteria.

With the part-time LPN to RN Bridge program, students will complete what's typically a two-year associate degree program in two and a half years. Classes are held on weekday evenings and weekends, making it convenient for individuals with work and family responsibilities. It also spreads the cost out over three academic years, giving you greater access to financial aid.

What can I do with this degree?

Registered nurses assist physicians in providing care to patients who are sick, injured, convalescent, and disabled and provide compassionate care and support for the dying and their family. Graduates will be prepared for employment in multiple heath care settings such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Private medical practices
  • Home hospice care
  • Nursing homes
  • Assisted living facilities
  • Schools
  • Clinics
  • Rehabilitation facilities

Job Outlook

According to the the U.S. Department of Labor and Industry, jobs in healthcare are steadily on the rise due to the aging world’s population. We are already seeing shortages of nurses, but by the year 2020, the nation will have a shortage of more than 800,000 nurses.

Nursing can be rewarding in more ways than one. The median average salary for a registered nurse is $62,450, and licensed practical nurses $39,030. Plus, many hospitals also offer generous signing bonuses.
