Advanced Certificate in Hospitality Management

The Advanced Certificate in Hospitality Management offers a uniquely challenging opportunity for college graduates to become professionals in the hotel and restaurant management field.  Students are provided with hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to practice their hospitality skills in appropriate environments.  HRIM gives students the essential management abilities vitally needed by professional management in this high specialized and diversified industry.  The Hospitality Management Program at Mercyhurst has a national reputation for its education excellence in the industry for over 35 years, and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for programs in Hospitality Management.  Mercyhurst was the first private liberal arts college in the country to receive this distinction.

All courses are offered during days, evenings, and weekends.  A maximum of two three-credit courses completed during the last ten years may be applied toward the Certificate in lieu of equivalent required courses.

Course Requirements:

HRIM 175 - Hospitality Engineering - 3 credits

HRIM 234/235 - Intro to Food Service Management/ and lab - 4 credits

HRIM 434/435 - Advanced Food Service Management and labs - 5 credits

HRIM 201 - Hotel Rooms Operations - 3 credits

HRIM 212 - Purchasing for the HM industry - 3 credits

HRIM 380 - Hospitality Law - 3 credits

HRIM 401 - HM Cost Controls - 3 credits

MGMT 226 - Human Resource Management - 3 credits

 

TOTAL CREDITS  = 27 credits.

Admissions Requirements

An applicant must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a B.A. or B.S. degree with an overall GPA of at least 2.5.

Admissions Procedures

Have official college transcripts sent to the Office of Adult & Graduate Programs. Submit a completed Advanced Certificate Application, Or you can also choose to apply online for free.
