Advanced Certificates are designed to help college graduates gain the knowledge and skills they need to qualify for advancement or to enter a new career field.
Post Bacc Teacher Certification
Certificates require between 12 and 30 academic credits, depending on the field of study. In general, no more than six undergraduate credits completed at Mercyhurst or another institution may be applied toward a Certificate.
Mercyhurst University offers programs that lead to certification from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the following areas:
These certifications are for college graduates seeking a teacher certification in the State of Pennsylvania. Each certification requires a course sequence of study and clinical practicum experiences. Admission standards include: a bachelor's degree from an accredited university, completed post bacc teacher certification application along with official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions. Applicant must have graduated with an overall GPA of at least a 3.0 to qualify for certificate program.
The "major field" requirements in certain certificate programs are available during mornings and/or afternoons only. Most requirements for certificates in business-related fields are also available during evenings and weekends. Weekend classes meet once a week during each term, and evening classes meet either once or twice per week. Many students combine evening, weekend and day classes.
