Education and Performance History
Sheila Coon, a native of the Ithaca, N.Y., graduated from Mercyhurst University with a B.A. in Art Education. Following graduation she taught Jr-Sr. High Art in New York and California was an advertising fashion illustrator for a department store and then spent 29 years in the newspaper industry directing newspaper advertising and then marketing departments for both the Gannett Company and the Times Publishing Company. In 2007 Sheila returned to Mercyhurst as the Director of Public Relations and Marketing and currently holds the position of Director of External Affairs and Government Relations in the Advancement department.
Sheila is a life-long learner and attributes that passion to her parents Robert and Gloria Sullivan and a legacy of Mercyhurst alumni in her family. Gloria graduated from Mercyhurst in 1944, sisters Maureen ’73 and MaryAnn ’88 and daughter Bethany graduated from MPS, attended MNE and is currently a student at SUNY Cortland. Sheila and her husband Malcolm have four adult children Carey, Fred, Jaclyn and Bethany and three grandchildren Sean, Elyse and Bailey – all of whom are the loves of her life.
