Dr. Jacobs is the director of the Organizational Leadership (OL) Graduate Program and has been part of Mercyhurst since 2005. He is responsible for the coordination of curricular development, field/internship placements, and theses/capstone projects for the OL program and also teaches leadership courses.
Dr. Jacobs provides leadership and management consulting services in human resource development, financial management, business planning, and leadership strategies to both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. He has taught classes to CPAs throughout the United States in controllership and in financial management for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Prior to joining Mercyhurst University Dr. Jacobs worked for 14 years as a CPA in industry for a tri-state steel fabrication and erection company that generated annual revenues of $15-17 million. As the Vice President and Controller for this company, he was responsible for the financial, computer, and human resource functions in this company.
Dr. Jacobs also served 24 years in the U.S. Army and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Highlights of his service in the Army include Professor of Military Science for ROTC students at Gannon University, Edinboro University and Mercyhurst University. Dr. Jacobs also served as executive officer for Readiness Group Pittsburgh from 1984 to 1988, where he was responsible for leading a team of senior Army officers and non-commissioned officers in the training and development of Army National Guard and Army Reserve forces in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Dr. Jacobs' other service in the US Army includes being the human resource management officer for a 2,500-person telecommunications organization and later for a 10,000- person logistical support organization, inspector general for a telecommunications and air traffic control organization in Korea consisting of over 3,500 people, and commander of an airborne rifle company in the U.S. and commander of an infantry company in combat in the Republic of Vietnam.
